Rabbi urges donations to Holocaust organizations to protest neo-Nazi event in KC

I am dismayed and disgusted by the National Socialist Movement’s plans for a demonstration in downtown Kansas City on November 9, the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht – the date considered the beginning of the Holocaust. On ristallnacht (The Night of Broken Glass) nearly 100 Jews were murdered, 30,000 Jewish men sent to concentration camps, 267 synagogues destroyed and the thousands of of Jews’ homes and businesses vandalized in Germany, Austria and Nazioccupied parts of Czechoslovakia . I applaud the Kansas City Council for condemning such heinous disrespect.

Inspired by the council’s call for residents to “express their moral outrage,” I am encouraging my congregation to pledge donations to the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education, which fights intolerance and hate. I urge all decent and caring people in Kansas City to do the same: choose a worthy anti-hate cause to support as a protest to the NSM demonstration.

Everyday people can take a stand and make a difference in battling hatred. Now it is our turn!
